{"id":2391,"date":"2015-08-26T09:47:08","date_gmt":"2015-08-26T09:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/?p=2391"},"modified":"2015-08-26T09:47:08","modified_gmt":"2015-08-26T09:47:08","slug":"light-commercial-vehicles-set-record-year-sales-predicts-cap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/light-commercial-vehicles-set-record-year-sales-predicts-cap\/","title":{"rendered":"Light commercial vehicles set for record year of sales, predicts CAP"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-ads-body-copy=\"true\" data-ads-first=\"2\" data-ads-every=\"3\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Commercial vehicle operators moving away from larger vehicles to 3.5-tonne vans\u00a0will lead to a record year for light commercial vehicle sales, says CAP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The pricing experts say year-end LCV registrations are likely to top 360,000 this year, due\u00a0in part to the improving UK economy but mainly shaped by commercial vehicle operators moving to smaller\u00a0light commercials.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CAP, which\u00a0also predicts that around 45,000 heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) will be registered in 2015. John Watts, CAP senior editor, commercial vehicles and motorcycles, said: \u201cThe predicted record number of LCV registrations flew in the face of some industry forecasts that a decline in sector share for traditional 7.5-tonne vehicles would see operators moving up to 10-or 12-tonne vehicles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The move away from 7.5-tonne vehicles would continue due to driving licence changes, driver CPC requirements, operator\u2019s licence requirements and the increased kerb weight of many Euro 6 models.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Many pundits have forecast a move up to 10\u00a0or 12 tonnes, which in theory provides a more efficient vehicle. As we anticipated, this simply hasn\u2019t happened.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;In 2010, 3.4% of sales were in this weight band, but the sector share has dropped to only 2.6% this year. &#8220;In recent years many operators have simply abandoned running heavier commercials altogether, and have replaced 7.5-tonne vehicles with 3.5-tonne light commercials which are not subject to operator\u2019s licence, tachograph, HGV MOT or driver\u2019s licence legislation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Their operating costs are significantly lower, there are no weight restrictions, they are much more manoeuvrable, their physical presence is less intrusive, and their environmental impact is perceived as less.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Consequently, the light commercial market is enjoying the resulting unprecedented growth and is heading for a record year for registrations.\u201d SMMT figures showed that UK commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturing grew 46.3% in July, with 9,274 units built and production for the domestic market particularly strong, up 137.6% over July 2014.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The UK CV industry has seen strong recovery in 2015 so far, with a 32.4% uplift in output.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Commercial vehicle operators moving away from larger vehicles to 3.5-tonne <a class=\"moretag btn btn-primary\" href=\"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/light-commercial-vehicles-set-record-year-sales-predicts-cap\/\">Read More&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":2125,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[37,159],"tags":[30,164],"class_list":["post-2391","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-industry-news","category-vra-member-news","tag-cap","tag-lcv"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2391","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2391"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2391\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/wp-json\/"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2391"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2391"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dev.lnetdev.uk\/thevra2026\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2391"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
